Opposite aspect of knob is dryer and white pine becomes less abundant. Downslope towards river is a geology break to putative calcareous shale, which supports post oak and junipers (BLUW.8). Oak hickory - sugar maple is also extensive nearby.;Shoulder of knob along a ridgeline. Less dry compared to S exposure on the other side of knob. Community is a mixed evergreen deciduous forest dominated by oaks (chestnut, scarlet) and white pine with white pine saplings but little oak regen.
